Itinerary FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Can I do this without a car?

Not realistically. The sights are spread out and tours are few.

Can I add New Mexico or Oklahoma?

Yes. Route 66 links the Panhandle to Tucumcari in the west and Oklahoma in the east, and Santa Fe is around five hours from Amarillo.

What is the best direction?

Any. Just try to reach the canyons early in the day, and allow extra time if storms are forecast.
