Pampa’s sights are close together downtown. Plan on two or three hours.
1 Woody Guthrie Folk Music Center
Guthrie lived in Pampa from about 1929 to 1937, working at a drugstore, learning guitar and forming his first band. The centre, in a downtown building tied to his story, keeps that time alive with memorabilia and music.
Practical: Limited hours; call or check online first.
2 White Deer Land Museum
Housed in the old offices of the land company that sold off much of the area to settlers, with pioneer rooms and ranch history.
Practical: Small museum, usually free or by donation. Check hours.
3 Downtown Pampa
Walk the brick streets and look up: the old buildings, including the Combs-Worley, tell the story of the oil-rich 1920s.
Practical: Free. Allow 30–45 minutes.
4 Gray County Courthouse
A 1928 building, restored and still in use. It is one of the many grand Texas courthouses that make county seats worth a stop.
Practical: View from outside; it is a working government building.
5 Miami, Texas
A tiny Roberts County town on US-60, reached along an unhurried drive over the Canadian River breaks. It has a pretty main street, and a calling-contest tradition for cattle that has made local headlines.
Practical: About 25 miles north-east of Pampa.
